What can we find in the Department of Dentistry of the PCV?

Our team has a professional acting philosophy based on offering our patients personalized treatment plans according to their needs in order to achieve full oral health. We have specialists that cover each area, a factor that guarantees the success of the treatment. Currently, everything has been specializing, and in dentistry too, so our team is made up of the following specialists:

  • Advanced oral rehabilitation, prosthetics and aesthetics
  • Periodontics (specialist in gums)
  • Endodontics (specialist in treatments of dental nerves)
  • Orthodontics (specialist in dental and maxillary malocclusions)
  • Pediatric dentistry (specialist in rehabilitation for children from 5 to 12 years old)
  • Oral surgery and implantology

When is it necessary to attend the dental consultation?

There is a mistaken perception of attending the consultation only in the presence of pain. However, when dealing with oral problems in early stages, planning and execution of the case are made more easily and predictably. It is also important to note that the absence of pain does not mean the absence of oral problems, so reviews with a periodicity of 6 months for the control of oral health are recommended. Undoubtedly there are alarm symptoms, such as bleeding gums, dental mobility, bad breath, reduction of mouth opening and color change, among others, so that if any abnormality is perceived it is convenient to make a visit control.

What are the different options to replace the dental absence?

The resolution of each clinical case must be considered in a unique way, adjusting to the functional and aesthetic needs of each patient. But in a generic way, we can speak of two large groups: removable prosthesis on teeth, mucosa or implants and fixed prostheses on teeth or implants. Together with our dental laboratory, we work with the best materials on the market, from acrylic and composite resins to porcelain and titanium.

Can headaches be caused by oral problems?

There are alterations of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) that generate a neuromuscular imbalance that can be aggravated in the presence of dental crowding and malocclusions, which generate contractures of the entire muscular system of the head and neck. This alteration is treatable by means of occlusal discharge splints, which achieve significant muscle relaxation and prevent wear and dental fractures.

From what age can orthodontics be used in children?

Before we expected to have a permanent dentition (coinciding with the age of 12, approximately), but in PCV we use orthopedics at an early age. After 5 or 6 years, the correct growth of the jaws can be guided, so that future orthodontics are usually shorter and more effective treatments.

Are all patients candidates for dental prostheses?

No. Patients must have certain minimum anatomical and functional requirements, such as the presence of healthy bone and absence of infections, among others, in order to guarantee the success of the treatment. In the PCV we have specialized diagnostic equipment such as the CT scan, which is the first step in the implant placement protocol. Only with the CT, it is possible to analyze the bone substrate. In the presence of any anomaly, there are bone and soft tissue regeneration treatments that allow returning to an optimal situation. It is always necessary to assess the patient’s systemic status and the medication it presents, since there are drugs that are counterproductive to this treatment, such as bisphosphonates (Osteoporosis), which can lead to bone necrosis. There are habits that we recommend to modify, such as tobacco and poor oral hygiene, but the important thing is to emphasize that each clinical case is treated in a personalized way.

On behalf of the entire dental team, we want to make ourselves available to you. If you have any concerns, do not hesitate to visit the PCV department.
