On November 6th, Ecoembes, within its campaign “Third in age, first to recycle”, were kind enough to give our patients and relatives a talk about recycling.
As they explained to us, seniors, in general, have a strong tradition of recycling although perhaps they are not fully aware of it. Accustomed to the times they live in, they have a way of life in which, due to past shortages, they have been forced to consume sensibly and save resources.
An example of this is the reuse of products such as recycling clothes (from the older ones to the little ones in the house); milk, oil… the container was taken from home to fill or one was left in exchange for what was drunk; Shopping was carried in a wicker basket or a clothes bag…
That is why older people should be empowered as an important source of knowledge and transmission of this way of doing and living, transmitting their experience to family, friends, neighbours… and their entire environment in general; making them aware of recycling and responsible consumption to achieve a more sustainable world.
