The Policlínica Comarcal del Vendrell has been part of the “XL Lletra Gran” project for many years now, within the framework of the Pla Educatiu d’Entorn del Vendrell (Educational Environment Plan of El Vendrell). This project began in 2008 as part of the aforementioned plan, initially involving only four organizations. Over time, however, it has become a great example of collaboration among various institutions, with many more joining the initiative.
Currently, it is a learning and service project based on networked collaboration. The participating entities include: the Centre de Dia Anna Serra, the Residència La Muntanyeta, the Llar Santa Anna, the Policlínica Comarcal del Vendrell, students from the vocational training module in social and healthcare assistance at the Institut Andreu Nin, students from the Specific Training Itinerary at the same institute, the Pere Mata Community Rehabilitation Service of El Vendrell, and the Terra Baixa Public Library.
As you can see, it’s a project with many stakeholders, which makes it somewhat complex to explain. However, to summarize, the process works as follows:
- Students from the vocational training module in social and healthcare assistance at Institut Andreu Nin: once a month, the students go to the library to select materials for activities with the users of the centers during their monthly visits/activities.
- Students from the Specific Training Itinerary at Institut Andreu Nin: these students go to the library to choose board games, which they then use to play with the users at the centers.
- Pere Mata Community Rehabilitation Service of El Vendrell: they are responsible for transporting the materials; they deliver new materials to the centers and return the used ones to the library.
- Terra Baixa Public Library: this is the coordinating body of the project. They handle the lending of materials, donate decommissioned items, and train students on how to select materials effectively in the library.
- Care centers: the centers host the activities and are responsible for preparing the space, the users, the materials, and helping to facilitate the activities.
Within this network of institutions and activities, we recently organized an outing with our patients so they could get to know the Terra Baixa Library and learn about its history. It was a highly enriching experience, as they enjoyed a pleasant walk through El Vendrell to the library and the opportunity to be inside it, evoking memories of times past.
