¿Cómo definiría el Servicio de Pediatría de la Policlínica Comarcal?
Es un Servicio que prioriza la Atención Primaria de la Salud, es decir, la prevención, el control del crecimiento y desarrollo del niño, la promoción de hábitos saludables y el diagnóstico precoz y tratamiento oportuno de patologías congénitas y adquiridas. Controlamos pacientes desde los primeros días de vida hasta su entrada en la adolescencia, realizando los controles rutinarios de salud del niño sano y la atención de patología aguda cuando el niño y su familia lo requieran.
¿Cuáles son los puntos que destacaría de la consulta?
Nuestra premisa es esta: primero, saber escuchar, dar tiempo y atención. Es la llave que generalmente abre las puertas al diagnóstico. Después damos paso a mirar y examinar al niño y, finalmente, hablar; en esta última fase hay que resaltar que no hay padres que no entiendan lo que les dicen, sino médicos que no eligen las palabras adecuadas para ellos. El pediatra debe decir lo que es necesario. Los padres buscan el mejor consejo, no que se les demuestre como sabe el médico. Hay que enseñarlos «signos de alarma» para que la familia sepa cuando avanzar la consulta y, asimismo, informar sobre la evolución esperada para evitar angustias y visitas innecesarias.
¿El pediatra actual se ayuda sólo del fonendoscopio y el otoscopio? ¿O dispone de más recursos?
La consulta actual ha evolucionado en comparación a años previos. Actualmente estamos capacitados para diagnosticar niños con hipertensión arterial a partir del año de vida, alteraciones de la agudeza visual a partir de los 6 meses de vida, o realizar estudios de imágenes como la ecografía.
Sobre este último punto cabe destacar que en España no se realiza formación en ecografía durante la formación MIR, por lo que es habitual que el médico que realiza una ecografía a un niño sea un médico especialista en imágenes pero no un pediatra. En este sentido, a partir de noviembre de este año, el servicio de Pediatría de la Policlínica Comarcal Vendrell estará en condiciones de ofrecer a sus pacientes ecografías pediátricas realizadas por el pediatra. El principal beneficio de esta nueva iniciativa es interpretar la ecografía desde el punto de vista pediátrico, lo que aumenta la calidad diagnóstica y permite decidir la conducta terapéutica en un mismo acto médico.
Finalmente, nos gustaría que nos hablara sobre sus Jornadas de Pediatría, que esta año llegan a la VII edición consecutiva.
El Servicio de Pediatría, junto con los directivos de la Policlínica Comarcal del Vendrell, tienen en cuenta la importancia de la formación médica continua, y creen que debe ser accesible y de primera calidad. Por ello, hemos implementado desde el año 2012 las Jornadas Anuales de Actualización Pediátrica, que se realizan durante el mes de noviembre. Son impartidas por médicos referentes a nivel nacional en su especialidad, y asisten pediatras de toda Cataluña y zonas vecinas como la Comunidad Valenciana y Aragón. Estas Jornadas han recibido el reconocimiento de la Sociedad Catalana de Pediatría, la que ha otorgado su auspicio anual y de la Asociación Española de Pediatría, que las ha validado como de alto interés científico a través del Comité de Evaluación de actividades Docentes y Científicas. Se hacen en la sala de actos «Dr. Isaac Contel «, con capacidad para 150 personas.
